Trip To Bountiful Receives Its Second Extension

It was announced that The Trip to Bountiful will extend its run at the Stephen Sondheim theatre until October 9th.  Its original 14 week limited engagement run was supposed to end on July 7th. In May, it received its first extension and pushed back the closing date until September 1st. This will be the second extension for The Trip To Bountiful.

There is no word on whether or not Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Vanessa Williams will remain playing their respective roles throughout the entire run. I do have a good feeling that Ms. Tyson will stay on as Carrie Watts, the lead role of this play. This role brought her a Tony award and without her, I don’t think that this show will sell as well or have the same feeling. We do know that Condola Rashad will be leaving this show as she goes on to prepare to take the title role in the new Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet, which will begin previews on August 24th.
