Broadway In The Hood Announces New Residency

Earlier this week, Las Vegas-based A Source of Joy Theatricals announced their new residency at The Smith Center in Las Vegas.  The five Broadway plays and musicals as part of the Broadway in the Hood series will be performed in the Troesh Studio Theater, Cabaret Jazz and Reynolds Hall between September 2015 and May 2016.  The productions will feature a local singers, dancers, and actors who are members of Broadway In The Hood’s educational and training program.

Since 2010, Broadway In The Hood has produced major original productions as well as Broadway productions such as “Dreamgirls,” “The Best Of Broadway,” and “The Color Purple.” In addition, Broadway in the Hood has been on TVOne’s television show “R&B Divas LA” as well as the PBS Special Presentation “Open Doors & Dreams,” which garnered a 2014 Emmy Award nomination for Broadway In The Hood.

Founder of A Source of Joy Theatricals, Torrey Russell, said, “I’m honored and beyond thrilled to have Broadway In The Hood’s home at The Smith Center. For many years I have admired Myron Martin, the fantastic staff, and crew of The Smith Center.  It is rare today to find a theatre where the patrons and staff are dedicated to reaching out to the community and to a young organization such as ours.”

President and CEO of The Smith Center, Myron Martin commented, “I’ve always thought of The Smith Center as the living room of Las Vegas, a place where the community can come together and be inspired.  I was pleased when Broadway in the Hood participated in our Sesquicentennial concert event, and I now look forward to once again welcoming Torrey and his group to our stages. We can’t wait to see what they bring to life with their productions.”

In a press release, Martin also said, “I now look forward to once again welcoming Torrey and his group to our stages. We can’t wait to see what they bring to life with their productions.”  And neither can we.
