August Wilson’s Pittsburgh Cycle To Be Recorded In Its Entirety

For the first time in history,  August Wilson’s iconic “The Pittsburgh Cycle”, the 10 play series chronicling the lives of Blacks over a 100 year period in Pittsburgh, will be recorded . The readings will be recorded before a live studio audience at New York Public Radio’s Jerome L. Greene Space in New York starting August 26 with Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and ending on September 28 with Radio Golf. These recordings will go into the New York Public Radio archives. No word on whether they will be broadcasted or if they will be available for sell.

The plays will directed by different actors and directors, many of whom worked with Wilson himself. The cast and directors include a lot of accomplished professionals like Kenny Leon, Phylicia Rashad, Jessie L. Martin, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, and Taraji P. Henson just to name a few. There are even a couple of actors who are coming back to reprise their original parts. Check out Greene Space’s website for a complete list dates and a full cast for the all the plays. This isn’t an event to miss.
