Phillip Boykin Will Star In Big River At The California Musical Theatre

The incredible, Tony Award Nominee (Porgy and Bess), Phillip Boykin will star as “Jim” in Big River at the California Musical Theatre. This is the first time in 20 years that the Music Circus has produced this musical and it marks Mr. Boykin’s return to Music Circus after their 2013 production of Show Boat. This production will also star Ben Fankhauser (Newsies) as “Huck” and be directed by Mike Heitzman.

Big River is a musical adaptation of Mark Twain’s 1884 novel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which tells the story of Huck and Jim, a slave in Missouri, as they travel the Mississippi River.

In addition to Porgy and BPhillip Boykiness as “Crown”, Phillip Boykin has captivated audiences the world over with his rich bass-baritone voice. He has astounded the classical world with various concert and operatic performances, as well as the theater with Jesus Christ Superstar, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, and currently in Broadway’s On the Town.

He is also featured in the 2014 film, Freedom, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Sharon Leal.

Big River starring Phillip Boykin will run at the California Musical Theatre Music Circus June 23- June 28. For tickets and more information, visit www.californiamusicaltheatre.com
