Harlem Shakespeare Festival Presents All Female Julius Caesar

On June 8th, the Harlem Shakespeare Festival will present The Tragedy of Julius Caesar featuring an all-female cast. This one night only performance stars the iconic Carmen de Lavellade and Tony Award winner Trezana Beverley (For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf) in the titular role under the direction of Petronia Paley. Along with 16 classical actresses including Debra Ann Byrd, Mary Hodges, Natasha Yannacanedo, Michelle Shay, and more!

This epic history play by William Shakespeare is based on real events in Roman history and is a tale of power, loyalty, and honor. As with most classics, there have been many interpretations and iterations of this piece, and all of Shakespeare’s works, throughout the history of the theater; but telling this story exclusivelywith women of color definitely brings something new and exciting.julus_caesar HSF

This will be the last production of the second year of this festival and is presented by Take Wing And Soar Productions whose mission is to give “center stage opportunities to classically trained actors of color”. Joining with them is Voza Rivers/ New Heritage Theatre Group.
