Honestly, I just want to sit with him and talk and be in the same room with him. His career has evolved and he’s evolved as an artist. It’s just so weird when you’re obsessed with something and then the person is in front of you, so I think that will be really bizarre.

The cast is rounded out by Victoria Justice of Nickelodeon fame as “Janet”, Ryan McCartan from Disney as “Brad” and the character of “Riff Raff “will be played by Reeve Carney of “Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark”. Adam Lambert has been cast as “Eddie”. Lambert is notable for “American Idol” and “Glee”. The show is slated to air in the fall and will be directed, executive produced and choreographed by Kenny Ortega. The two hour special will be also be produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and Berman’s The Jackal Group. Sounds like a great cast to pull off such an iconic show!

For those who may be unfamiliar, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a quirky cult classic that debuted in 1975 on film and was based upon a 1973 musical production. Pardon the pun, but to say it had a rocky start is an understatement. The story line centers upon a young couple in need of assistance. They find their way to a creepy castle and are greeted by an oddball ensemble of attendees at a convention led by the mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter, originally played by Tim Curry . Dr. Frank- N-Furter describes himself as a “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania.” Seduction, murder, hilarity and mayhem ensue as the couple discovers that Dr. Frank-N-Furter is not quite of this world and nothing in the castle is like anything they have ever encountered before.

Upon release “The Rock Horror Picture Show” was considered an epic fail. However, it was given new life when it was shown as a “midnight movie” as a promotional ploy at New York’s  Waverly Theater (now called the IFC Center).  Fans began to watch the film regularly and by regularly, I mean every single week! It wasn’t long before the regular audience began to organically interact with the film by dressing as the characters, shouting out lines, singing along and bringing props to the theater. It became an underground classic with showings all over the country and was known for the antics of the audience during the show. It is now considered the longest running movie in theaters. A live interactive theater viewing of the show is an absolute blast, but be prepared to be sprayed with water and surrounded by rambunctious behavior and raucous laughter. Leave the kids at home; the content is explicit.

Now if this isn’t enough to strike up your curiosity, here’s an added gem; “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be rebooted featuring none other than the fabulous Emmy-nominated Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N- Furter. Cox is a transsexual actress who shot to fame in her role as ‘Sophia Burset’ on the hit Netflix series “Orange is The New Black.” Since launching her acting career into the stratosphere, Cox has made a name for herself as an advocate, sought after-speaker and fashionista. And while some are critical about Cox’s ability to pull off the character, I believe she will do a fantastic job.

The reboot will be airing on Fox in the fall of 2016. If you haven’t seen the movie before, be sure to watch a copy of the original for comparison. The fundraiser will be held on a Monday, which is typically a night that cast members have off. However, the Democratic National Committee is paying the costs for the special Monday night performance. Seats are selling for up to $5,000 each which will benefit the Democratic Hope Fund. The Fund raises money to help retire Mr. Obama’s campaign debt.

Margo Lion, a Broadway producer and an investor in Hamilton, is organizing the event. She also organized Broadway fundraisers in 2007 and 2012 for Mr. Obama’s presidential campaigns.

The show, which tells the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton to a hip-hop score, has received rave reviews. Hamilton debuted off-Broadway at The Public Theater in January. It started Broadway previews July 13 and opened on August 6 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. In addition to Mr. Obama, other political figures have attended the performance, including former President Bill and former Senator Hilary Clinton, and former Vice President Dick Cheney. First lady Michelle Obama has seen the hit musical twice.

Other early guests have included comedian Jimmy Fallon and actresses Julia Roberts, Whoopi Goldberg, Laverne Cox and Olivia Wilde.

For those of you that might not be familiar with what being trans is like Cox had this to say

And I think what they need to understand is that not everybody who is born feels that their gender identity is in alignment with what they’re assigned at birth, based on their genitalia. If someone needs to express their gender in a way that is different, that is okay, and they should not be denied healthcare. They should not be bullied. They don’t deserve to be victims of violence. … That’s what people need to understand, that it’s okay and that if you are uncomfortable with it, then you need to look at yourself.”                                                                 –

Broadway Bares is an annual fundraising event that not only promotes awareness of HIV/AIDS but also helps to fund its research. Cox’s Burlesque inspired performance got the audience going as she stepped onto the stage in nothing but stockings, a corset and sequined pasties. Performing to the Banarama 80’s classic “Venus” club version,and  she gave us moves like Beyonce! This may not be commonly known about Cox but she started studying dance at a very young age. Her back up dancers were full of energy and of course her male dancers were scantily clad and ripped.
