Theater for the New City: Dream Up Festival presents the world premiere of Sister’s Keeper by Cordelia Donovan and Terri Jones Salter, only September 10 – September 14.

There’s no breaking the bond two sisters have with one another, no matter how different their personalities may be. Sister’s Keeper is a story of love, friendship, family and HIV. It follows the lives of two sisters, Eve and Margo, who refuse to let their different lifestyles cause them to forget their common bond. When crisis strikes, they are reminded that family is the refuge we run to for safety in the time of trouble.

Sister’s Keeper stars Torrie Nicole (Eve), Jasmine Renee Thomas (Margo), Michael Chandlar (Brandon), Clifford Jones (Troy), Dominique Andriese (Tonette), Tobias Truvillion (Rick), Sahara Frett (Taylor), Greer Morrison (Physician), Janaki Gerard (Bartender) and Nelson Hernandez (Handsome Stranger). Sister’s Keeper is a re-write of the play Miracles, which was written by the late Lynda J. Jones in 1999 and performed in front of hundreds of people. Lynda’s daughters, Terri Jones Salter and Sherri Jones collaborated with Cordelia Donovan to continue their mother’s legacy.

The Dream Up festival is dedicated to new works. The festival aims to push ideas to the forefront through imaginative presentations so as to challenge audience expectations and make us question our understanding of the way art illuminates the world around us.

Sister’s Keeper aims to shine the spotlight on a topic still considered taboo in many communities. It aspires to begin an impactful narrative around the HIV/AIDS epidemic in today’s society through it’s acclaimed cast and soulful music and lyrics written by Kyle Bynoe of CMORE5 Music, Inc.

Performances are September 10 at 9:00 PM, September 11 at 6:30 PM, September 12 at 8:00 PM, September 13 at 2:00 PM, and September 14 at 9:00 PM. The location is Theater for the New City (Johnson Theater), 155 First Ave. The show runs 50 minutes without intermission. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from the box office, by calling (212) 254-1109, or by visiting the website here.
