]]> Dionne Figgins constantly shows us that she is indeed a force to be reckoned with. From her stand out work on Motown the Musical as “Dance Captain” and understudy for the character of Diana Ross to her groovadelic incarnation on Trip of Love, as “Jennifer”, a young woman of color living during the height of the civil rights movement, fighting to integrate the TV variety show world in Hollywood, CA. Figgins is FIERCE. Currently, Figgins has added a new role off Broadway on the STARZ original series ‘Flesh and Bone‘.

‘Flesh and Bone’ takes viewers on a tour of the seedy underbelly of the fiercely competitive world of ballet. Figgins bares almost all as a stripper with sage advice. Her characters name is the “Yasmine” and Figgins show us a completely different side of her talent as she bares all for that almighty dollar dollar bill ya’ll.

Figgins on-screen magic certainly left fans wanting to see more!

Figgins is working hard to continuously establish herself as triple threat with notable accomplishments in dance, singing and acting. And while she stays busy on stage and in front of camera, she also makes time to remember the less fortunate through her work as co-founder of Broadway Serves, a service organization comprised of members of the Broadway community who are looking to “be the change we want to see in the world.” Figgins is a powerhouse who cares and we just can’t get enough!

]]> There are people who talk about changing the world and there are those who actually do it. Artists for World Peace is an organization that is committed to the latter. The non-profit organization’s goal is simply and powerfully stated on its website:

We are artists and activists who promote peace by feeding, housing, educating and providing healthcare to the most vulnerable, lifting communities to a place of hope.

Through an impassioned idea to create a traveling Peace Belt, founder Wendy Black-Nasta created the organization. The Belt is comprised of 144 pieces of currency and gemstones from around the world.

Since 2003, the Peace Belt has traveled to over twenty-five countries on five continents. It has been worn during hundreds of artistic performances, sacred ceremonies, and at peace and spiritual gatherings in New York (Ground Zero), South Korea, Haiti, Spain, Brazil, Tanzania, Canada, Egypt, Tonga, Scotland-the list goes on. Wherever the Peace Belt travels, dancers, artists, musicians, peace activists, and spiritual leaders meditate on and lend their voices to support peace. In this way, the belt becomes a living link between cultures and a symbol of peace and unity of all nations, of all people as one.

 

This year, Artists for World Peace will present its fifth annual Broadway fundraiser on October 11th at Joes’s Pub. Audience members will be treated to outstanding Broadway performers who will sing, dance, and tell stories to help children all over the world. This year’s performers include  Dionne Figgins (Trip of Love, Motown, Memphis, Leap of Faith) and Daniel J. Watts (Whorl Inside A Loop, After Midnight, Motown, Memphis, Ghost, In the Heights).

Each performance will incorporate the traveling Peace Belt. Figgins and Watts will become a part of a fundraising performance and a special tradition with a foundation that has helped build schools, created safe houses for battered women and children, and sponsored the living and educational expenses of dozens of children. To whom much is given, much is required. It is inspiring to see such prestigious performers participate in giving back to the world. ]]> In an ode to the 1960s, Trip of Love takes the audience “back to the decade that made a generation boom.” This rocking musical puts the songs of the ’60s front and center, with live performances from the orchestra and cast of 23. Chart-topping hits like “California Dreamin’,” “Born to Be Wild,” “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’,” “Blowin’ In The Wind,” “Moon River,” “Downtown,” “White Rabbit” and dozens more will be enjoyed by the audience. Tony Award winners Robin Wagner (The Producers, Dreamgirls) and Gregg Barnes (Something Rotten!, Kinky Boots, Aladdin) bring the unbeatable song list to life with sets and costumes inspired by the psychedelic style and fashion of the era.

Dionne D. Figgins appears in Trip of Love as Jennifer, a young woman of color living during the height of the civil rights movement, fighting to integrate the TV variety show world in Hollywood, CA.  Ms. Figgins will be performing the hit songs “These Boots Were Made For Walking” and “Nowhere To Run,” among others.  Ms. Figgins was last seen as “Diana Ross” cover in Motown: the Musical on Broadway.
