Mean Girls The Musical originally opened in April 2018 and shut down on March 11, 2020, due to increasing concerns over the spread of COVID. However, it has been announced that March 11th was the final curtain call.

In 2018, the musical was nominated for 12 Tony Awards and won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book Of A Musical.

Throughout the Broadway run, Black talent shined bright.

The original cast included Rick Younger, DeMarius R. Copes, Curtis Holland, Kamille Upshaw, Zurin Villanueva, Brittany Nicholas, and Chris Medlin.

Additional actors who were later cast as replacements included Darius Barnes, Bria Jené Williams, Ashley De La Rosa, Ezra Knight, Sasha Hollinger, and Christine Shepard.

There are still plans in the works to open Mean Girls in London’s West End in 2021.

Even though the show has closed on Broadway, it’s not too late to catch the tour. The North American Tour has no plans to shut down after the pandemic.

Currently, Mean Girls official website states,” The Broadway production of MEAN GIRLS played its final performance on March 11, 2020. The MEAN GIRLS North American Tour plans to relaunch this summer or as soon as performances can resume.”

The North American Tour Company currently includes Adante Carter, Lawrence E. Street, DeShawn Bowens, Morgan Bryant, Niani Feelings, and Fernell Hogan II and is scheduled to begin touring on April 27, 2021, in Greenville, SC.
